Over the past decade, an unprecedented number of global humanitarian crises have emerged or intensified, resulting in more than 134 million people needing humanitarian assistance. Natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes can strike without warning, claiming thousands of lives in seconds. Man-made crises such as war and political instability simmer and progress over time, putting millions at risk over the long term. Through the Global Emergency Relief Fund, World Vision aims to help people who have lost homes, possessions, and loved ones—and is invested in being in unstable, challenging places where the greatest needs exist.
Our priorities for urgent and on-going needs include:
• Rapid emergency assistance. Providing relief supplies, food, clean water, emergency shelter, blankets and emergency health services
• Long-term needs. Providing food, health services, education, protection, water/sanitation/hygiene (WASH), and depending on the situation: goods and services in the form of cash or vouchers all to recover and restore livelihoods, schools, infrastructure and more
• Advocating for people impacted by disasters and empowering them to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and their devastating impact on everyday life
• The most vulnerable. Prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable groups (women, youth and children), including providing safe places where children can play and learn
